Set a location
Search a place or click the map. Confirm the pin, then activate it.
Return to normal
Stop the session before you disconnect. Your iPhone goes back to its real position.
Fix route playback
Keep the app open and the device connected while a route runs.

What you need before you start.
iOS 17.4 or later
Older versions can't be used. Check Settings, General, About.
A USB connection
Your iPhone has to stay plugged into the computer, and you have to trust the computer when it asks.
Developer Mode on
The app walks you through turning it on the first time you connect.
macOS first
Windows is in development. The macOS app needs the developer disk image Xcode installs.
The app open while active
A session or a route stops when the app closes or the cable comes out. Check your device before you rely on the location it reports.
ERROR CODES
Find the code shown in GPS Phantom.
Device connection lost
The software tunnel to the iPhone stopped while GPS Phantom was using it. Reconnect the cable. Try a different port or cable if it repeats.
iPhone disconnected
The selected iPhone is no longer visible to the computer. Reconnect the cable.
Developer image did not mount
GPS Phantom found the developer disk image but iOS refused to mount it. Restart your iPhone and reconnect it.
Device session stopped
The background device session ended before the requested action completed. Reconnect the device.
Device service failed
An iPhone service returned a failure that does not have a narrower code. Reconnect the cable and try again.
Place search unavailable
GPS Phantom could not reach the service that resolves addresses and nearby places. Check your internet connection and try again.
Route needs another waypoint
A route requires at least two distinct positions before it can be planned. Add at least one more waypoint to the route.
Route has no distance
Every waypoint resolves to the same position, so there is no path to play. Move the waypoints apart. They are all at the same place.
Road file is not a pack
The downloaded file does not contain a GPS Phantom road graph. Download the region again. The file is not a GPS Phantom road pack.
Road pack needs a newer app
The pack uses a format version this GPS Phantom build does not understand. Update GPS Phantom, then try the route again.
Road pack compression unsupported
The pack body uses a compression method this build cannot decode. Update GPS Phantom, then try the route again.
Road pack is incomplete
The file ended before the number of bytes stated in its header. Download the region again. The saved file is incomplete.
Road pack is corrupt
The road data contradicts its header or exceeds the format limits. Download the region again. The saved road data cannot be used.
Road pack checksum failed
The downloaded body does not match the checksum recorded in the pack. Download the region again. Its checksum did not match.
Road pack cannot be read
GPS Phantom could not open, save, verify, or install the road pack. Check that the packs folder is readable, then try again.
Road pack download failed
The region pack request did not finish successfully. Check your connection, then try the route again.
Online map tiles unavailable
The streamed base map could not load its visible tiles. Check your connection. Local map packs will keep working.
Local map pack cannot be read
A PMTiles archive did not open or failed while a tile was being decoded. Reinstall the pack, then reopen GPS Phantom.
Map style is invalid
The map style or one of its tile requests could not be rendered. Reopen GPS Phantom. If it repeats, install the latest version.
WebGL unavailable
The computer could not create the graphics context MapLibre needs. Update the computer's graphics drivers, then reopen GPS Phantom.
WebGL context lost
The map's graphics context was interrupted while the app was running. The map will recover automatically. If it stays blank, reopen the window.
Map configuration invalid
The configured map source could not be parsed or read from disk. Fix map.json or remove the override, then reopen GPS Phantom.
Map endpoint unavailable
The configured tile endpoint was malformed or could not be reached at startup. Check the endpoint address and your connection, then reopen GPS Phantom.
